Disaster Preparedness and Information for You and Your Animals

Disaster can strike at any time of the year, and without warning, and here in Teller County, it is not if but when a disaster will happen. It is always better to be prepared for when a disaster strikes instead of being caught off guard.

If there is a disaster in Teller County and you are evacuated from your home, you can bring your small animals to TCRAS. We will house them while you are displaced. Click HERE for an evacuation form you can fill out before being evacuated. Place the forms with the ready supplies if you have to leave your home quickly. 

Recommended ​Supplies

A good rule of is to have at least 72 hours of supplies ready to go in case you have to leave your home when a disaster happens. This include items that your pet will also need. The following items are what we recommend you have on hand in a go bag or in your home for your animal.

• Food
• Water
• Medication 
• Veterinarian Records
• Identification for you and your pet
• Extra bedding or warmth for the cold months
• Clothing 

Things to Think About

• Do you have a plan in place to get your animals evacuated if you are not home? 
• ​Do you know where you would go if you were to be evacuated from your home?
• How easily can you evacuate your animals, such as horses, goats, or chickens by yourself?
• ​Do you have your animal's medical records updated and ready to go?
• Do you have a way to keep you and your animals warm if the power goes out in the winter?
