Campaign Platform: No creature great or small should ever feel alone. Chief wants nothing more than his friends at TCRAS to find the love of a family; provided they don’t have a robot vacuum because nothing ruins a nap more than one of those monsters headed your way! He is honored to be an ambassador for TCRAS and is a wonderful example of their mission of “Fostering Hope and New Beginnings.” He wants all of the guests at TCRAS to know that they are safe and the staff and volunteers will love and care for them until they find their new beginning. History/Biography: Imagine feeling that your job is to protect your family “herd” and when left alone, you frantically try and get to them? That’s our Chief, he loves nothing more than his people and his severe separation anxiety led him to jump off a 2 story deck attempting to get to his family. He came into TCRAS’ care after that traumatic event to recover from the surgery necessary to repair the compound fractures he suffered to both front legs after he jumped. So many community members came to the aid of Chief. Dr. Volz and The Animal Clinic of Woodland Park provided the necessary surgery, staff and foster families cared for him as he recovered, the community rallied to provide him a specialized crate to keep him safe, Colorado Canine Orthopedics and Rehab fitted him with custom orthopedic braces for his legs, Behavior Veterinarians of Colorado provide behavior veterinary support, My Life Unleashed (Lisa Lima & Eric Rice) worked endless hours to give him specialized training and of course so much community love to let him know he is safe. Chief has the innate ability to know when you need a little extra love and attention, and he especially connects with kids. He spends time with students and staff at Woodland Park High School and residents of The Aspen while working on his Therapy Dog certification and we think that this has been his destiny all along. Chief enjoys visiting schools to talk about humane education and he especially loves being an ambassador for TCRAS. He is a once in a lifetime dog and gives so much joy to our community with his true gentle giant spirit. He wants to give back to the community who has shown him so much love! Fave Activities: NAPPING, short hikes, his doggie friends, his multiple admirers, all his kids at school and friends at The Aspen, peanut butter on his LickiMat Soother, cheese, popcorn, supporting student athletes at WPHS, snow, and going everywhere with his foster family! Other things you might like to know: Chief’s paws are master communicators. A paw to the arm, leg, face, foot or back may mean one of the following: I’m nervous, I need to go outside and let the squirrels know who is in charge, you are not done petting me, I see you have popcorn..I like popcorn too, are we there yet?! He loves to play with little dogs, and he makes the most amazing snow angels. Chief is a self appointed protector, no matter where he is and has been known to let any deer that attempt to join in the fun at a football or soccer game that they need to move along; the grass, players, coaches, bleachers, air and fans are all his. Chief enjoys being an ambassador for TCRAS, as long as there is a nap involved. |
