Adoption
When you adopt an animal from a shelter, you are not just helping one animal. You are helping give hope to hundreds of animals waiting for their new beginning.
-
Visit “Adopt a Cat” or “Adopt a Dog” to explore the animals available through TCRAS.
-
Please call us at 719-686-7707 with any questions we can answer before you visit the shelter. We recommend setting up an appointment before visiting to ensure our staff is prepared to assist you.
-
Visit the shelter to meet the adoptable animals you would like to consider. We allow people to take a tour of the shelter and meet multiple animals at a time. Please see hours of operation.
-
Fill out an adoption application. This can be done in advance. Click here for the Cat application or the Dog application. Please bring your filled-out application with you to your appointment.
How to adopt from TCRAS

All adoptions must be done in person.
-
Your visit with each animal will be assisted by a trained adoption specialist to answer questions, address concerns and to help you decide if the animal is a good fit for your home environment (i.e. children, other pets, specific needs, etc)
-
You can also bring in your current pets to do a visitation (this may be required with certain animals).
-
Then, if you feel you have found your new forever friend and your family and home are ready, just let us know and we will walk you through the rest of the process.
-
In most cases same day adoptions are possible. This will depend on the animal, and your situation.
