Adoption
When you adopt an animal from a shelter, you are not just helping one animal. You are helping give hope to hundreds of animals waiting for their new beginning.
EMPTY THE SHELTER
We are working with Bissell Pet Foundation to help us empty the shelter. What does that mean for you? It means most animals 6 months old or older will have a reduced adoption fee from September 18th to September 30th.
We would love to see many of our older animals, and animals that have been in the shelter for a long time, get their new beginnings.

Visit “Adopt a Cat” or “Adopt a Dog” to explore the animals available through TCRAS.

Please call us at 719-686-7707 with any questions we can answer before your visit. We recommend setting up an appointment before visiting to ensure our staff is prepared to assist you.

Visit the shelter to meet the adoptable animals you would like to consider. We allow people to tour the shelter and meet multiple animals at a time. Please see hours of operation.

Fill out an adoption application. This can be done in advance. Click here for the Cat application or the Dog application. Please bring your completed application to your appointment.
How to adopt from TCRAS
All adoptions must be done in person.

Your visit with each animal will be assisted by a trained adoption specialist to answer questions, address concerns and to help you decide if the animal is a good fit for your home environment (i.e. children, other pets, specific needs, etc)

You can also bring in your current pets to do a visitation (this may be required with certain animals).

Then, if you feel you have found your new forever friend and your family and home are ready, just let us know and we will walk you through the rest of the process.

In most cases same day adoptions are possible. This will depend on the animal, and your situation.

Adopting Dogs, Puppies, Cats, and Kittens in the Pikes Peak Region
Teller County Humane Society / TCRAS provides comprehensive adoption services for families across Teller County and the greater Pikes Peak region, including Woodland Park, Divide, Cripple Creek, and nearby El Paso County.
Our shelter routinely cares for puppies, adult dogs, kittens, and adult cats seeking permanent homes. In addition to housing adoptable pets at our main shelter facility in Divide, CO, TCRAS partners with local regional locations—including partner cat cafes in Colorado Springs and community retail partners in Woodland Park.
