We are currently looking for additional Board Members!
TCRAS Board members are committed to improving the lives of companion animals and their families in Teller County and the surrounding communities. As a limited admissions shelter, we care for dogs and cats who are lost, abandoned, abused or neglected until they are reunited with their owners (if lost) or until a suitable new home is found.
Board members meet once a month, contribute financially through annual dues and play an active role in fundraising to support the shelter. Providing high quality services and developing programs are part of our mission at TCRAS.
At this time, we are in need of additional members with skills in any of the following areas: finance, IT, building maintenance, and Public Relations. If you share our passion for the animals and our mission of care, please consider inquiring into the role of board members. We need your help.
To learn more about the commitment and rewards of becoming a member of the Board, please email Angie Davis, TCRAS Executive Director, at: angie@tcras.org

Current Board Members
Steve Arthur, Board President. Steve brings over 30 years of public policy experience to TCRAS. He is a vice president at Stateside Associates, a full-service state and local government relations firm based in the Washington, DC area. Steve directs Stateside’s Attorneys General practice and co-leads its Governors practice. In this role, he helps clients build relationships with state officials across the country and develops strategies for Stateside clients to educate state officials on their business interests in public policy issues.
More about Steve...
Steve has served on numerous state trade association boards of directors and was an executive at a national trade association. He plans to use those experiences on the TCRAS Board of Directors to continue strengthening the important work TCRAS does for animals in the Pikes Peak region. Steve and his wife have adopted over a dozen shelter and rescue pets, while also volunteering at shelters in communities across the country. While Steve has lived in all four continental U.S. time zones, his Pikes Peak family roots are deep. His great-grandfather moved to Cripple Creek in 1983 and eventually served as Mayor, and his grandfather was born there at the turn of the 20th century. |

More about Dan...
Dan came to TCRAS as a Board member because he believes in the services TCRAS offers within the community and Pikes Peak region. Dan’s focus as the board president is to carry out the non-profit’s mission and to strengthen the business by gathering statistics on the services provided, emphasize fundraising, improve financial management and streamline operating practices. When Dan’s Australian Shepherd/Border Collie, Sam, passed away, he made a contribution to hire an individual dedicated to fundraising, which resulted in an ability to expand the shelter and carry a three-month operating cushion. Dan has adopted six family members from TCRAS over the past 12 years. Dan loves the older animals and considers himself a foster “failure” —every pet he has fostered became a permanent family member. Sue moved to Teller County in 2008, after spending the previous 28 years in Princeton, NJ. A 1975 graduate of Air Academy H.S., she moved to Colorado in the early 70’s when her father transferred and retired from the Air Force. Sue has a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Texas Tech University and an M.B.A. from Rutgers University. Her entire career has been spent working in the information technology arena.

She has worked for IBM (developer, IT manager and marketing rep), Dow Jones (project manager), and Verizon (senior business analyst / project manager). She brings both information technology and project management skills to the TCRAS Board. An avid beagle lover, Sue (with her husband Tony) cares for a plethora of beagles. They adopt and foster, with an emphasis on rescuing senior beagles that have been abandoned and forgotten in their golden years. As a volunteer at TCRAS, Sue leads the off-site adoption fairs and participates as a committee member for fundraising events. In her spare time, she does home checks in Teller County for Colorado Beagle Rescue and spends her Friday nights at National Mill Dog Rescue, giving medications and providing dog care. |
I can honestly say that I look forward to each and every day working as a Real Estate Broker in the Pikes Peak region, and have been doing so for over 25 years. Originally born and raised in the State of Maryland, I grew up enjoying snow skiing and water skiing, but particularly the equestrian sport of Three-Day Eventing. I competed nationally for 6 years, winning a National Championship in 1979.
More about Jennifer...
I obtained by real estate license in Northern Virginia in 1986, where my equestrian trainers resided. I moved to Colorado in 1991. Upon relocating to the Teller County area, I have been very active and supportive of our local community organizations, with my passion being the rescue and wellness of our animals. I co-founded the Rescue Animal Fund in the mid 1990’s, which expanded to privatizing our local no-kill shelter and promoting responsible foster and adoption services. Consistently a top producer in this area, my awards include the President’s Award Club, Peak Producers, and most recently the prestigious Platinum Award. I enjoy assisting sellers by achieving a successful and harmonious sale, and enjoy helping buyers find their Colorado dream property. I look forward to many more years of being involved with our community and working in this beautiful Pikes Peak region. |
Kathleen moved from Chicago to the Colorado Springs area in 1995, following her passion for the mountains. Her extensive career in Graphic Design and Publishing eventually led her to build her own business, KAdesign (est. 2010). Kathleen offers a variety of creative services to support small businesses with marketing/advertising design and branding. “It’s a great opportunity to contribute toward getting some of these companies noticed and to watch them grow!”
More about Kathleen...
Soon after moving to Colorado, Kathleen met her husband, Craig, who already happened to live in Teller County. They were married in 2000 and have a happy, active life with their rambunctious rescue dog, Abby. They enjoy skiing, bicycling, kayaking, motor sports, camping and enjoying all that this beautiful state has to offer. In 2001 came the Hayman fire, and then the Waldo Canyon fire in June, 2012. It was then that Kathleen felt the need to do more to support the community where she lives. Having a big heart for animals and their wellbeing, she reached out to TCRAS during this unpredictable time. The compassion, full-on advocacy and teamwork from the staff and other volunteers was confirmation enough that she had found a way to help make a difference here. Kathleen has continued to be involved in one way or another from walking dogs, pet fairs and events, employee enrichment planning, fundraising committees, and assisting with marketing and graphic design projects. Kathleen believes the most important component of being on the board is to support the “front line” employees with what they need to operate successfully. |
