Fern's Journey to MayorFern was born to an orphan mother on the streets of Texas. Eventually her mother found her way to the Rescued Pet Movement. From there, they sent adorable photos to Angie at TCRAS in the hopes they would have a shelter home in Colorado and a higher chance at being adopted. Angie said yes and the mother and young pups were transported to Colorado for a better life. After a few days at the shelter, a volunteer came in and loved all over the puppies and asked if she could foster them. Fern was among those puppies and tried extra hard to be cuddly in the hopes that she could go to this foster home. Fostering was approved and mom and the pups went home with the volunteer!
While in her care, Fern's mother was an amazing escape artist and got out of every enclosure they had. Eventually the mom decided that it was time to wean the pups and seek her forever home away from her puppies. Fern continued on in her early puppy life, being adorable and amazing and also learned from her mother how to escape enclosures. This forced the foster mom to separate Fern and bring her into the family more often and increase her chances of adoption. While her littermates began to have their pictures taken and spread across social media looking for their forever home, Fern's foster mom just couldn't put her out there and finally said yes, I want to adopt this one. Fern had her furever home! As Fern entered this home, her older sibling Cinna had just run for Mayor of Divide but came in a VERY close second and was crowned Vice Mayor. He raised money for the shelter to put an amazing roof over the play yard. This allowed dogs to play and learn no matter what crazy weather Colorado had in store. Fern learned many great things from him and knew she wanted to follow in his footsteps and go beyond. He sadly passed away before Fern took her seat in office, but she felt Cinna's warm embrace and strong encouragement throughout the campaign. The day official results were announced April 5, 2024, Fern turned one year old. Fern plans to lead the way with kids and shelter animals make sure she is there to comfort, teach, and show them what life has to offer when given the chance to shine. |
